Teeth Whitening

What are the details of teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a very common cosmetic dental procedure and is safe for your natural teeth as well as existing dental work. Dental whitening is often used to correct tooth discoloration caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. Using the latest options in whitening technology, we can offer a safe method for creating a beautiful, “brilliant” smile! At Loeffler-Pitt Dental Associates, we offer several different options for whitening your teeth.

The whitening agents that we provide are different than what is available over the counter at a store or online. They consist of a higher concentration of whitening agent, therefore they are more effective.

Just let us know at any appointment if you have interest in whitening your teeth! You can lighten only your upper teeth or both the upper and lower, depending on how much you show when you talk and smile. We will evaluate the current shade of your teeth and will recommend the best option for you.

What causes tooth discoloration?

There are many causes of tooth discoloration. The most common causes include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea or tobacco. During tooth formation, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discoloration.

Who may benefit from teeth whitening?

Just about anyone can benefit from tooth whitening. However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. With a routine oral exam and shade assessment, a member of the clinical team can determine if you are a candidate for a whitening procedure.

Considerations for Whitening

In cases of extreme tooth discoloration, crowns or veneers may be the only choice to improve the cosmetic appearance of your teeth.

Please keep in mind that only the shade of natural teeth will lighten. Tooth colored fillings and porcelain crowns will not change in color.
